Safar Safar was born in Midyat, Turkey in 1921and died in New Jersey, USA in 2000. He isthe son of Abdel-Aziz Safar and the grandsonof the legendary Syriac leader, Hanna Safar(who held the title of Pasha). Safar Safarspent the last years of his life documentingthe historical stories told to him by his fatherin the oral tradition. That history had becomeetched into the author’s mind. He laterrealized that the best way to preserve thefamily’s cultural and historical backgroundwas to write it all down. This publication isderived from those writings, which includeseveral manuscripts that Safar Safar created.   His work not only preserves his family’s history as he intended; it alsooffers a better understanding of what life was like in Tur Abdin and givesthe reader detailed historical context that relates to Syriac speaking people in general.
